Downtown Colorado Springs with the Carew Family

Families Lifestyle

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Why, you ask.

Well, this family photo session in downtown Colorado Springs included BOTH ice-cream (hooray!) and a wasp sting (boo.). We started out enjoying some amazingly vibrant fall leaves. Things were going well until sweet big-sister Isabel discovered that those beautiful leaves were housing some of last year’s wasps that WOULD NOT DIE! (Remember the fall of the wasp attacks??) The brave girl endured a painful sting to her finger and then continued to smile (after a few rightfully-earned tears) for the rest of the photos there.

Thankfully, mama Shannon had requested that we end our photo session with a few lifestyle-type photos at Josh and John’s ice-cream. Not only was it the perfect place for some fun photos, it was also a great spot for rewarding a kid who had just had a wasp stinger in her finger. Things really did turn out okay in the end, but next time I’ll take ALLL the ice-cream and none of the wasps, thank you.

I really loved that Shannon wanted to add a little variety to her photos this year by taking the family to do something fun. I really was a great way to capture some sweet interactions and genuine smiles. If you’ve got a fun idea for your family photos, I’d love to hear about it. I’m 99% sure that we can make anything happen!

Puttin’ the “Good” in Good Photo [The Carew & Neely Families]
A couple of months ago, I told you a little bit about why I named my business the way I did. I'm here today with a little sequel to that post - one more reason why I chose to go with the name "Good Photo" instead of something more simple or catchy. It all really starts with a story about me and my family. My little family started through the miracle of adoption and I stared this here photography business because said miracle is really quite expensive. Photography was a hobby for me, so I started offering photo shoots in exchange for donations to our adoption account. And oh.my.word did you all come through with the most generous of dona ...

Olive Jane
In my opinion, being asked to be present at the birth of a baby is one of the greatest honors. It means to be allowed to witness one the most painful and vulnerable moments of a woman's life and to be invited to experience - in a most intimate way - the creation of a family. I've been anticipating the birth of miss Olive Jane for months and was thrilled to be awakened in the wee hours of April 7th by a text message that said, "Come on over. Baby's on her way!" As Holly labored at home during the darkest hours of the night, I wished - on her behalf - that it would just.be.over. It was a long labor and I know that there were several momen ...

The Snider Family
I met up with the Snider Family a couple of months ago in Black Forest for their family photos. When they arrived, Tori told me that they had never had family photos taken before. Can I just stop right here and tell you what an honor it was to take these photos for them? To be the first to capture the gift that they are to oneanother and the special bond of this particular family is not a job that I take lightly. Have I mentioned before that I just stinkin' love this job? (I have actually. Several times. I'll give a free session to the first person to tell me just how many times I've mentioned that. Seriously. I will. If you want to spend ...
