Downtown Colorado Springs with the Carew Family

Families Lifestyle

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Why, you ask.

Well, this family photo session in downtown Colorado Springs included BOTH ice-cream (hooray!) and a wasp sting (boo.). We started out enjoying some amazingly vibrant fall leaves. Things were going well until sweet big-sister Isabel discovered that those beautiful leaves were housing some of last year’s wasps that WOULD NOT DIE! (Remember the fall of the wasp attacks??) The brave girl endured a painful sting to her finger and then continued to smile (after a few rightfully-earned tears) for the rest of the photos there.

Thankfully, mama Shannon had requested that we end our photo session with a few lifestyle-type photos at Josh and John’s ice-cream. Not only was it the perfect place for some fun photos, it was also a great spot for rewarding a kid who had just had a wasp stinger in her finger. Things really did turn out okay in the end, but next time I’ll take ALLL the ice-cream and none of the wasps, thank you.

I really loved that Shannon wanted to add a little variety to her photos this year by taking the family to do something fun. I really was a great way to capture some sweet interactions and genuine smiles. If you’ve got a fun idea for your family photos, I’d love to hear about it. I’m 99% sure that we can make anything happen!

The Hunt Family [Visiting Colorado]
Carrie and Jared both grew up in Colorado Springs and chose this past Christmas as the perfect time to return home and introduce their daughters to its beauty. I was lucky enough to go to high school with Carrie and was thrilled when she contacted me to say she would be in town AND ask if I would capture her family amongst some of our city's most classic scenery. The day of their session was cloudy and dreary and we were all disappointed that the mountains would not be making an appearance in their photos. However, the light dusting of snow was very "Colorado" and we still had plenty of beauty to work with. Thank you, Carrie, for making ...

Colorado Springs Family Photos || The Tharp Family
Last month, the Tharp family said good-bye to Colorado Springs and moved across the country to a new adventure. But, before they did, they wanted to do a set of classic Colorado Springs family photos one last time. Because of it's scenery and proximity to some of our city's most beautiful features, we thought that the entrance to Garden of the Gods would be the best backdrop for them. However, smoke from a forest fire filled the sky on the day of their shoot and the mountains were nowhere to be seen. We went ahead with the shoot and I'm so glad we did. We had some AMAZING light to work with and I loved the results. Doug and Nicole did a ...

Summer Bucket List || Colorado Springs Drive-In
I have a tendency to be self-absorbed. To wake up in the morning and think, "What do I want to do today? What needs to be cleaned? What work needs to be done?" (Can anyone relate?) I get to the end of the day and realize that I've left little room for the good stuff. Ya know, the "having fun with my son" stuff. So I decided that I needed to write the fun stuff down. And I needed to hang it up where I could see it and plan for it and look forward to it. Enter the "summer bucket list." A little list that has made all the difference. Our Summer Bucket Lists help me enter into my kids' childhood by setting aside one day each week t ...
