Downtown Colorado Springs with the Carew Family

Families Lifestyle

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Why, you ask.

Well, this family photo session in downtown Colorado Springs included BOTH ice-cream (hooray!) and a wasp sting (boo.). We started out enjoying some amazingly vibrant fall leaves. Things were going well until sweet big-sister Isabel discovered that those beautiful leaves were housing some of last year’s wasps that WOULD NOT DIE! (Remember the fall of the wasp attacks??) The brave girl endured a painful sting to her finger and then continued to smile (after a few rightfully-earned tears) for the rest of the photos there.

Thankfully, mama Shannon had requested that we end our photo session with a few lifestyle-type photos at Josh and John’s ice-cream. Not only was it the perfect place for some fun photos, it was also a great spot for rewarding a kid who had just had a wasp stinger in her finger. Things really did turn out okay in the end, but next time I’ll take ALLL the ice-cream and none of the wasps, thank you.

I really loved that Shannon wanted to add a little variety to her photos this year by taking the family to do something fun. I really was a great way to capture some sweet interactions and genuine smiles. If you’ve got a fun idea for your family photos, I’d love to hear about it. I’m 99% sure that we can make anything happen!

Newborn Dorothy
I introduced you to miss Dorothy Hazel a couple of weeks ago, and today I'm excited to show you her newborn photos. Now here's the thing about miss Dorothy - Dorothy is baby number 3. 3! And the thing about being baby number 3 is that there's no time to lay around looking serene and sleepy in a little basket. No way. Baby number 3 jumps right into all the motion and commotion that is created by older siblings. I loved the way Dorothy's newborn shoot incorporated the way that her life - her family's life - really is right now. It's exciting and high energy and everyone is excited to have her join in the fun! We jumped on the bed, scrambl ...
The Indrecc Family
Oh the lovely Indrecc Family. I'm so happy for you to meet them today. Oh sure, if you've read this blog for a while, you've met John & Em before as well as Mary & Travis. But how wonderful it was for me to photograph them all together! Tim & Marcia started their family over thirty years ago and brought these two crazy sisters into the world. Since then, they have gained two amazing sons-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren. To say that they adore their girls and their grandchildren would be an understatement. And let me tell you, we tore up the Broadmoor with lots of laughter during this session. With two toddlers running ar ...
Baby Girl looking up to big brother
My Geneva Joy || Snow on her First Birthday
It snowed on the day she was born - just like I dreamed it would - and I've always called her my little winter baby. This little babe of mine loves to be outside, and the cold and wind and snow completely thrill her. When it began to snow on her first birthday, a little exploring outside was the perfect way to celebrate her. These photos in the snow not only sweetly capture this important first birthday, but somehow they sum up and punctuate her whole first year of life perfectly for me. This has been a most wonderful and lovely and amazing year and I can only hope that her second year will be as beautiful as her first. Briggs was given ...
