Downtown Colorado Springs with the Carew Family

Families Lifestyle

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Why, you ask.

Well, this family photo session in downtown Colorado Springs included BOTH ice-cream (hooray!) and a wasp sting (boo.). We started out enjoying some amazingly vibrant fall leaves. Things were going well until sweet big-sister Isabel discovered that those beautiful leaves were housing some of last year’s wasps that WOULD NOT DIE! (Remember the fall of the wasp attacks??) The brave girl endured a painful sting to her finger and then continued to smile (after a few rightfully-earned tears) for the rest of the photos there.

Thankfully, mama Shannon had requested that we end our photo session with a few lifestyle-type photos at Josh and John’s ice-cream. Not only was it the perfect place for some fun photos, it was also a great spot for rewarding a kid who had just had a wasp stinger in her finger. Things really did turn out okay in the end, but next time I’ll take ALLL the ice-cream and none of the wasps, thank you.

I really loved that Shannon wanted to add a little variety to her photos this year by taking the family to do something fun. I really was a great way to capture some sweet interactions and genuine smiles. If you’ve got a fun idea for your family photos, I’d love to hear about it. I’m 99% sure that we can make anything happen!

Ryland is One [A Family Cake Smash Session]
I was so excited when Amy contacted me last month to say that her little guy was turning one and ask if I would be interested in photographing a cake smash session for him. We decided to incorporate a little family photoshoot first and then it was cake time. Little Ryland wasn't too shy and sure did enjoy his first taste of sugar. I was extra impressed with big brother Connor who waited very patiently to be told that he could join in on the cake eating - and then it became a whole family affair. Ryland did not mind sharing his cake one bit and was really just the happiest camper for the whole session. Happy birthday, Ryland! I hope you ...

Five Minute Project || Waking the Baby One Year Later
The other morning - at 6:45am - my littles were being especially sweet and I couldn't resist the opportunity to sneak in and complete a little 5 minute project photo session with them. These photos were taken almost exactly one year after the photos from this post - and I really can't believe the difference that one year makes. These two little ones have certainly changed in that short year, but I can honestly say that they still adore each other as much as they did one year ago. Briggs still loves to sneak in a greet his sister as soon as he hears her stirring and he often insists that he must be the one to give her her first kiss of the ...

The Meyer Family
On a visit to Colorado Springs last fall, the Meyer Family took a little time to have family photos taken. I was so thrilled to see them - not only because they are a part of my husband's family, but because I've been dying to get my camera on these cute little blondies for quite some time. I just love the location that Jay and Shelli chose and the way their bright colors really complemented their surroundings and their personalities. This session was full of snuggles and giggles and not a single tear. Thank you, Meyer family, for the privilege of capturing all that love and joy!
