Colorado Springs Home Birth || Welcome Evangeline

Lifestyle

I’ve been anticipating the arrival of this little one for months – and when her mama asked me to be there for her Colorado Springs home birth, I was over the moon!

For WEEKS I sprinted to my phone every time it rang and slept with it right next to my pillow. So when Emily called me just after midnight on March 23, I was pretty much half way out the door before she even told me she was in labor.

Emily, the world’s most fabulous doula, knows a lot about birth and babies. She’s helped many, many moms and dads bring their little ones into the world. I was so honored and excited to be a part of the team of people that would be there for her as she welcomed her own little girl.  She chose a home birth and was attended by her wise and compassionate midwife, Tara, her husband, her sister, and two friends.

Emily labored all night and Evangeline Kindle Mary Osburn was born just as the sun was rising — and at the very beginning of one of Colorado Springs’s most epic blizzards!

I love this family and am excited to watch Evangeline grow up alongside her bother and sister and alongside my own two kids. New babies are like campfires - you can watch them for hours and all at once nothing changes and everything changes. Froggy legs Wrinkled knees Hands that won’t stay out of her mouth Flexed toes Tight, tiny, mad fists A tongue that sticks out when she cries And a big brother who climbs into the middle of all things baby and loves and loves and loves. Meet my new little lady.

The Fariss Family
This sweet family has a little brother on the way and what a blessing it was to spend a morning with them capturing them as they are today. Big sister, Brooklee,  has some of the most beautiful hair I've ever seen and was not at all interested in our photo session until the session involved running. She must be two. :) Little Brother, on the other hand, was quite excited to have me there. He moved and kicked and stretched his way through the morning. Oh how I love that he was making his presence known from inside his mama's belly. It was as if he was saying, "I am here. I am a life. I am already a part of this family." I'm praying for t ...

This Old Truck
Earlier this year, Mark's beloved truck bit the dust. Not worth the cost of the repairs, it went off to a new owner via craigslist, and we began searching for our next vehicle. We're not a family that takes on car payments, so we bought what we could afford with cash. And what we could afford was a very old, slightly damaged, manual transmission Ford. Mark and I, honestly, kind of think it's the worst. Three seats (not even enough for all of us). A tape deck. No cupholders (Imagine!). No automatic anything. But our kids. Well, they think it's absolutely the most amazing vehicle they've ever, ever laid eyes on! One bench seat means ...
