A New Fish For Briggs

Lifestyle Personal

The buying of a fish. It’s an ordinary thing, I suppose.

However, I heard it said once that the better we tell our stories, the better we want to live them. And this is an ordinary story that I wanted to tell.

It’s a story about allowance, and saving, and learning to value money. It’s about my boy’s Lego watch and shoes worn out from a whole year of Kindergarten. It’s about brothers and sisters and about caring for a pet.

And I’ll let you figure out what happened there in the middle with the neon green rocks.

Thank you for listening to my story today and for giving me a place to tell it.

En Route to Ethiopia. First stop; Copper Mountain.
All summer, we've been looking forward to spending a weekend in the mountains with my family. In fact, we've been looking forward to THIS very weekend. So, even though we leave for Ethiopia on Sunday, we are leaving tonight to head for the hills. We will have plenty of time to relax - much needed after this week of packing and cleaning and planning and finishing up a million things. On Sunday, we'll be Warrior Dashing in the morning and then my parents will make a *quick* stop at the airport to unload us on their way home. And at 11:58 that night, we'll be sitting on the runway thinking "Are we really doing this?" I tell you what, after the S ...

Olive Jane
In my opinion, being asked to be present at the birth of a baby is one of the greatest honors. It means to be allowed to witness one the most painful and vulnerable moments of a woman's life and to be invited to experience - in a most intimate way - the creation of a family. I've been anticipating the birth of miss Olive Jane for months and was thrilled to be awakened in the wee hours of April 7th by a text message that said, "Come on over. Baby's on her way!" As Holly labored at home during the darkest hours of the night, I wished - on her behalf - that it would just.be.over. It was a long labor and I know that there were several momen ...

Newborn Olive
Back in April, it was my great honor to photograph the birth of Miss Olive Jane. As a photographer, there really is no more important request than that of a mother asking you to capture her baby's first breaths. Two weeks later, I had the opportunity to capture little Olive again as well as the rest of her family. (Big brother Atticus was happy to show off his muscles, but not so happy to pose with his sister.) Since her 6-month photos are just around the corner, I though it was probably time that I shared this tiny beauty with you. Enjoy!
